Who are you?

My name is Emily, I’m 27 years old and I’m from Wales. This is a fun little blog to document my travels, share tips and tricks that I have picked up and maybe even some destination guides!

What on earth does EmilyArDrawsYByd mean?

Emily all over the world! I’m a first language Welsh speaker, so I wanted to name my blog something to reflect that, as I usually introduce myself as “Hi I’m Emily from Wales.” It’s also the name I chose for a travel instagram when I first went backpacking and I am not imaginative enough to do that twice!

Where have you been?

To date, I’ve visited 20 countries to varying degrees. I’ve traveled a lot in Europe, as well as spending a bit of time time in Latin America.

What do you count as “visiting” a country?

I don’t like the “checklist” style of travel; visiting a country for the sake of ticking it off a list. To say I’ve visited a country, I personally need to have spent at least a few days there and done one acitivity. But can depend. For example, I have a Costa Rican stamp in my passport, but my experience in the country is limited to a seven hour bus ride and a night in a hostel in San José, so I don’t really “count” it.

How do you travel?

I like the backpacker style of travel. If I have two weeks, I’ll split it between a few different destinations, staying in hostels and meeting. This is how my summer holidays worked as a child, and now it’s my favourite way to travel

Is it always super amazing awesome and fun?

Erm, no. I’ve had my fair share of disasters and disappointments on the road. Missed transport, hospitalisations. I once got stranded on a tiny island in Guatemala in the middle of a national strike with no way out. I’ve come to realise that everything usually works out, and it always makes for a good story!

What’s next?

No idea, but I can’t wait to find out!
